#TAKEMEANYWHERE - LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner 23.5-23.6.
23 May to 23 June LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner invited the public to take them anywhere. For 30 days the group hitchhiked the internet - and IRL- starting their trip from Boulder, Colorado, US.
Each day, the artist collective, Shia LaBeouf, Nastja Rönkkö & Luke Turner, tweeted their coordinates using the #TAKEMEANYWHERE hashtag, and waited for a ride. Whoever then appeared had the opportunity to take the artists wherever they chose. LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner repeated the process each day for the duration of the project, with their path entirely in the hands of the public.
#TAKEMEANYWHERE is commissioned by The Finnish Institute in London and Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art.
"Our job is to look for new ways to collaborate and create networks to internationalise the Finnish art field. Seek out individuals and communities that are doing meaningful and ground-breaking work. Those visionaries that are also really lovely to work with like LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner", says curator Animaya Grant on commissioning #TAKEMEANYWHERE.
The American road trip has long been symbolic of a collective yearning to seek out beauty and truth within a corrupt nation. As part of MediaLive 2016’s Corruption theme, #TAKEMEANYWHERE asks, can we find such truths within the corrupted networks of society, and preserve something of the utopian naivety of the Internet age?
Art collective LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner comprises Luke Turner (b. Manchester, UK), Nastja Säde Rönkkö (b. Helsinki, Finland) and Shia LaBeouf (b. Los Angeles, USA). Their practice explores connection, collaboration and creation across the networks. Past projects and performances include #STARTCREATING and #IAMSORRY (both LA, 2014), #METAMARATHON (Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, 2014), #FOLLOWMYHEART (SxSW, Austin, 2015), #INTRODUCTIONS (with St Martins BA Fine Art, London, 2015), #ALLMYMOVIES (New York, 2015), and most recently #TOUCHMYSOUL (FACT, Liverpool, 2015).
