WYSING RESEARCH RESIDENCY 2017
Wysing research residency offers a two-month residency for one Finnish or Finland-based artist at Wysing Arts Centre. Wysing Art Centre in Bourn, near Cambridge, includes a gallery, education and new media facilities, artists’ studios, project spaces and a 17th century farmhouse. The residency is co-organised with HIAP -Helsinki International Artist Programme.
During 2017 Wysing has been exploring ‘many voices’ across all its programmes within the over-arching title ‘Wysing Polyphonic’. Through residencies, exhibitions, events, study weeks and study days, Wysing has explored a diversity of contexts and positions to help better understand the role of art, artists, and arts organisations such as Wysing, at this moment of global political change. Following an Open Call in late 2016 nine artists have been selected to be in-residence at Wysing across 2017.
This open call is for a Finnish artist to join the three residency artists in the autumn of 2017 to undertake a period of artistic research. Wysing Arts Centre is particularly looking for artists, musicians or writers who can bring a range of cultural, social, racial and gender perspectives to Wysing’s programme.
The selected artist will receive £3,500 to cover a research fee and travel costs. The residency includes accommodation in Wysing's onsite farmhouse and a studio.
The dates of the residency are 16 October – 10 December 2017.
The other artists who will be at Wysing during this time are Maryam Monalisa Gharavi, Imran Perretta and Morgan Quaintance (more information and artists' bios can be found here: http://www.wysingartscentre.org/whatson/residencies/autumnresidencies).
The Jury consists of representatives of HIAP, the Finnish Institute in London and Wysing. The selected artist will be notified by Wednesday, 27 September, 2017.
The deadline for the applications is Sunday, September 24, 2017 (11:59 pm, GMT +3).
