• OPEN DATA

  • Veikko Kähkönen: OKFestival

Post-industrialised societies have recently taken a form in which many key infrastructures are increasingly based on digital data and where the friction in creating and disseminating information has rapidly vanished. The amount of information available has increased exponentially and the relationship between governments and citizens in this data society has radically changed in terms of information creation and use.

Potential impacts of sharing such data cooperatively are enormous. Its impacts are already visible in our societies today, but there remains a need for further research in order to pinpoint the exact benefits and unintended consequences of such information transformations and how they affect us as individuals. The Finnish Institute continues to identify factors that make a fair information society - open data being in its core.
