ÖÖ Pop-Up Store - Nordic Design in Soho

'ÖÖ' pop up gallery and concept store showcases work by young avant-garde creatives from six Nordic countries.

'ÖÖ' or 'night' in Estonian, is a temporary gallery and concept store showcasing work by young avant-garde creatives from six Nordic countries - Finland, Estonia, Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

Initiated and curated by Merilyn Keskula, it is the first part of the collaborative project by a community of fashion, furniture and product designers, photographers, film-makers, artists and illustrators, whose work introduce dark and surreal aspects of Northern aesthetics.

"Nordic design is very distinctive. The more ironic, "darker" side of it - work created by young design talent - will be an interesting addition to London Design Festival. The designers, who have been chosen for this project, will convey a vibe that is going on in Scandinavia at the moment", says Icelandic artist and designer Andrea Maack.

Finnish contributors include accessory designer Kirsi Nisonen, known for her luxurious hats and hair accessories, and Elina Aalto, designer and founder of Finland's self-appointed National Design Team IMU. A short film by Finnish photographer Johnny Kangasniemi will premiere September the 18th at the ÖÖ store.

Every piece included in the ÖÖ store is created, edited or chosen especially for the project. The mix of showpieces, prototypes and commercial products are available for sale or order.

Together, with the backdrop of a derelict record store, they create a mysterious and surreal environment, where visitors can interact with the designers.
