  • 'Unspooling - Artists & Cinema' is a celebration of 25-year-old Cornerhouse, Manchester's centre for contemporary visual arts and film. Produced as part of the Abandon Normal Devices Festival (AND), the ambitious group exhibition displays 20 international artists, including Finnish artist Juhana Moisander.

As part of the exhibition Juhana Moisander explores the folklore of Cornerhouse and swirling Manchester street life for his new commission. Continuing to work in response to the history of sites and institutions, Juhana undertook a residency in August 2010, during which he interviewed the Cornerhouse staff for the recollection of urban folklore of the last 25 years, for the focus of his series.

The exhibition is part of the AND festival in Manchester 1 - 7 October 2010. AND is a new regional festival taking place across the Northwest until 2012 and beyond. A catalyst for production and experimentation, the festival invites us to consider: What are our normal devices and how might we abandon them?
