New Architects: UK_Finland International Exhange Programme

The Architecture Foundation, along with the Finnish Institute and the Museum of Finnish Architecture, are delighted to announce a new exchange programme for talented emerging architects between the UK and Finland for 2011-2012.

The aim of these exchange programmes is to identify, exchange and promote the best new architects and practitioners from both countries through developing networks, dialogue and cultural exchange that allow for the sharing of new ideas and new practices.

Through an invited submission process, the partners will identify three exciting emerging architects/practitioners in both the UK and Finland, who will act as ambassadors for the architectural scenes in their respective countries, taking part in reciprocal programmes to each country with a schedule of coordinated activities including public lectures, workshops, studio and site visits, along with other networking opportunities.

The selection will be made by The Architecture Foundation, The Finnish Institute and The Museum of Finnish Architecture alongside a panel of expert advisors: for the UK, Jeremy Till, Dean of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Westminster; Kieran Long, editor-in-chief, Architectural Review; Alison Brooks, Director of Alison Brooks Architects; and Professor Koen Steemers, Head of Department, Architecture at Cambridge University, along with Finnish counterparts  Jorma Mukala, editor-in-chief, Finnish Architectural Review; architect Teemu Kurkela, partner, JKMM Architects and Professor of Public Building Design, Aalto University; architect Pirjo Sanaksenaho, partner of Sanaksenaho Architects and Vice Chair, Council for Architecture; and architect Pentti Kareoja from ARK-house Architects.

The British architects will visit Finland in late Autumn 2011, and the Finnish architects will visit London in Winter 2012, for a programme of events organised by the Museum of Finnish Architecture and The Architecture Foundation, respectively. The exchange will coincide with World Design Capital of 2012 and will take the theme Cities and Water.
