Artists Karoliina Bärlund and Josefina Nelimarkka explore the emotional side of mental disorders in their new exhibition at Blackhall Studios, London, 11-12 February.

As I Was Someone's Shadow Side examines the nature of psychosis and the mind of a person who creates a whole new reality within one's own imagination. The fundraising exhibition will support the wellbeing of young people affected by mental illness in the UK through a mental health charity YoungMinds. As I Was Someone's Shadow Side is curated by Vanessa Vainio.

Karoliina Bärlund studies her subject through fashion and landscape imagery, combining a subject and medium not normally associated with each other. She creates imagery that aims to illustrate the emotions of a person living between different realities. Josefina Nelimarkka explores different states of mind and the blurred realities between them through painting and drawing. Her work aims to connect the conscious and unconscious processes in the artist production to articulate the idea of control and its loss. Both Bärlund and Nelimarkka split their time living and working in London and Helsinki.
