After the very successful screening of Arto Halonen's Shadow of the Holy Book at Sheffield Doc/Fest in November 2008, more Finnish directors are taking the UK by storm.

London's week long documentary event, London International Documentary Festival, LIDF, is showing four documentaries by Finnish filmmakers.

2009 is the third year for LIDF, which is already famous for showing an interesting and diverse line-up of documentary films and bringing together filmmakers from all over the world. This year the festival is themed Conversations in Film. This theme introduces films which are all focused on current social, cultural and political issues and aims to engage a wide audience in conversation with relevant experts and filmmakers themselves.

The Finnish directors showing at LIDF are Kiti Luostarinen with Palna's daughters/Palnan tyttäret (2008), Mia Halme with Big Boy/Iso poika (2007), John Webster with Recipes for Disaster/Katastrofin aineksia (2008) and Anastasia Lapsui and Markku Lehmuskallio with Nedarma/Travelling (2007).
