Helsinki based independent curator and artist Jon Irigoyen has been selected to take up a curator residency at Temple Bar Gallery & Studios (TBG&S) in Dublin in September 2011.
Jon Irigoyen was born in Bilbao, Spain and now lives in Helsinki. He was one of the founding members of the experimental contemporary dance company Liike in Barcelona. His recent curatorial projects include The Invisible City, which was part of the Pixelache Festival 2010 in Helsinki. Jon's work shows a fascination with the crosscutting relationships between the artist and the spectator, the interaction between public/urban space and perceptions of reality more generally.
Jon's curatorial proposal for TBG&S will focus on the concept of heterotopia - Foucault's dream of a "science" of "other spaces" - and its relation to mythical and real situations in which we live. The project will be carried out with the participation of Finnish and Irish artists who have previously taken part in the exchange, now celebrating its 5th year. For 2011, artist Alan Phelan from Dublin has been selected as the Irish participant to take up a 3-month residency in Helsinki.
The residency exchange is organised by HIAP - Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme and TBG&S in collaboration with the Finnish Institute in London and with the support of FRAME - The Finnish Fund for Art Exchange.
