This September a Helsinki based independent curator and artist Jon Irigoyen has taken up a month-long curatorial residency at Temple Bar Gallery & Studios (TBG&S) in Dublin.

This exhange is the 5th in the series of residency exchanges between Dublin and Helsinki. Jon Irigoyen was born in Bilbao, Spain and now lives in Helsinki. He was one of the founding members of the experimental contemporary dance company Liike in Barcelona. His recent curatorial projects include The Invisible City, which was part of the Pixelache Festival 2010 in Helsinki. Jon's work shows a fascination with the crosscutting relationships between the artist and the spectator, the interaction between public/urban space and perceptions of reality.

"My residency has coincided with the new Dublin Contemporary international art event which is a very positive point, because I have met artists and curators from abroad and new projects are initiated", Irigoyen says.

During his residency Irigoyen is developing a small project focusing on the Dublin city centre public spaces. He also has future plans for a project with Temple Bar Gallery & Studios that would involve both Finnish and Irish artists.

The residency is organised by HIAP - Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme and TBG&S in collaboration with the Finnish Institute in London and with the support of FRAME - The Finnish Fund for Art Exchange.

The Irish participant of the exchange is artist Alan Phelan, who has been in Helsinki since August while taking up a three-month residency. While working at HIAP in Helsinki is planning to research the tunnels under Helsinki city built since the 1960s. Previously Phelan has worked with industrial objects and spaces that are used as a part of an "infrastructural aesthetic" which provide a structure for additional narrative possibilities.
