TV LIKE US – New Book on Artist and Community TV

  • tv like us_200x280

The Finnish Institute is pleased to present a new publication about community, media and art. TV LIKE US brings together artists, researchers and technologists working with community TV.

The texts show that the thing called ‘television' still holds a potent grip on our collective imaginations and that community TV is fast becoming a key player in the changing broadcasting landscape. Community television builds citizenship, tells stories and gives people a voice through DIY participation. From artist TV to open media platforms, TV LIKE US presents cases, methods and ideas behind this lively, local TV culture.

Among the contributions, TV LIKE US includes a specially commissioned look back at TV Swansong (2002) by artist duo Somewhere (Karen Guthrie and Nina Pope), a reflection on acclaimed Liverpool-based community TV channel tenantspin, and ‘how to' guides on open formats and workshop methods from initaitives such as M2HZ (Helsinki), Dublin Community TV (Dublin), Deptford.TV (London) and #media2012 (London).

TV LIKE US. Published by the Finnish Institute in London and edited by Hanna Harris with Suvi Kukkonen, Olli-Matti Nykänen and Jenni Tuovinen. With contributions by Sarah Cook, Jarmo ‘Elukka' Eskelinen, Patrick Fox, Karen Guthrie, Adnan Hadzi, Hanna Harris, Teppo Hudson, Kathy Rae Huffman, Andy Miah, Tamar Millen, Ciaran Moore, Jenni Niemiaho, Mark Saunders, Laura Sillars, Mike Stubbs, Minna Tarkka and Emmi Vainio.

TV LIKE US is the second book in Reaktio, the Finnish Institute's new publication series. Books in the series focus on critical contemporary issues, posing questions and offering commentary. The books encourage debate and provoke action; they are books to think with and books to act on. Visual identity for the series is designed by Åh.
