Pioneering Finnish photographer, innovator of colour techniques and a key cultural figure, Claire Aho opens her first international solo exhibition in London´s Photographers' Gallery 19 April 2013.

Aho set up her own studio in the 1950s. While running the studio she remained in full control of the space and all its production processes. This is one of the starting points to the exhibition: her relationship with the studio space. The exhibition focuses on Aho's studio work in 1950–70 showing her editorial, fashion and advertising images along with covers of Finnish lifestyle magazines. Aho also displays her original magazine layouts.

Following in the footsteps of her father Heikki Aho, 1925 born Claire Aho started her career as a documentary filmmaker in Aho & Soldan – company owned by her father and uncle. Aho’s career developed and her productive output spanned to editorial, advertising, reportage and fashion for a range of commercial applications. She was the first woman to produce colour photography in the 50s. Today living in Stockholm, Aho is known for her intensive, brightly coloured and witty images that capture pieces of Finnish history.
