Mika Mattila’s Thought-provoking Documentary Chimeras at Sheffield Doc/Fest
Sheffield Doc/Fest, the UK’s leading documentary and digital media festival started in Sheffield. 15 and 16 June the festival is showing Finnish director Mika Mattila's documentary film Chimeras (2013). Through two artists and their parallel destinies inside China's turbulent contemporary art scene, Chimeras explores the formative questions of modern Chinese identity. The film was received well by the international media.
"Mika Mattila’s thought-provoking ”Chimeras”, a documentary about the search for a uniquely Chinese aesthetic in an international art world dominated by the West.... is able to home in on the smallest of details." The LA Times wrote.
For the third year Doc/Fest is partnering with Documentary Campus to present the Industry Conference Sessions, and will host a record 80 sessions. It is the place to see world and UK premieres of the creative documentaries from the cinema, television and online arenas, and to hear and meet filmmakers at Q&A sessions and network. The Festival programme includes 120 films from dozens of countries, 300 speakers from the digital and docs sector and over 250 buyers and decision makers from 20 countries participate in the marketplace.
