Contemporary Art
The Finnish Institute in London supports the internationalisation of Finnish contemporary art and helps artists with create networks. We do this by organising exhibitions, artist residencies, talk events and seminars. We identify and promote new trends in art, we are interested in current global issues and how artists tackle them.
2015 the Institute restarted its artist residencies. Our partners in the UK include The Wysing Arts Centre (Cambridge), The White Building / SPACE (London) and The Lighthouse (Brighton) – and in Ireland the Temple Bar Gallery and Studios (Dublin). 2016 our residencies have also included a new ceramics residency at the Victoria & Albert Museum. All the Institute’s residencies are different aiming to offer opportunities for artist working with different mediums. The applications for the residencies are organised through our partnering organisations FRAME Contemporary Art Finland and HIAP (Helsinki International Artist Programme).
2014 the Institute also started a programme called Visibility and Impact of Contemporary Art in Contemporary Society. It aimed to connect the Finnish art scene with the critical international discussion about art. We organised five Talk Art/Talk Society events during 2015. The discussions were filmed, you can watch all the episodes here on YLE Areena
